Case Study: Waking 10 times a night to 12 hour sleep

How Mason, 7mths, went from waking 10 – 15 times a night to sleeping for 12 hours!

When I first met Mason he was only having 2 short naps, anything from 20minutes and 1hour duration, and waking between 10 to 15 times a night.  Mum, Hannah, was exhausted and resorted to taking Mason to bed with her, desperate for sleep.

A rock/feed to sleep association had developed which was making it difficult for Mason to sleep without assistance. We needed to teach this little man to settle by himself so if he did wake he had the skills to get himself back to sleep independently.

We initially looked at Mason’s daily schedule and his age appropriate awake windows.  Getting the timing of these right meant we no longer had an overtired baby on our hands. An overtired baby will fight sleep and wake often, the very thing we were trying to fix.

Within TWO nights Mason was going to sleep by himself and sleeping all night!  Within 10 days nights were fantastic and his day naps were on target. There was the occasional ‘hiccup’ which can be typical with any sleep training method, it is to be expected and totally normal. As long as the response is always consistent bub will typically get back on track.
